A Better Way
Joel Salatin - April 22
Join us at Christian Fellowship Church:
5045 Chapel Hill Rd. Columbia, MO 65203
Our mission is to provide people with the knowledge, resources, and encouragement they need to achieve good health. We believe that when we give our bodies what they need, we can both prevent and reverse chronic disease.
We bring in top-notch, cutting-edge professionals from across the country to teach and guide all who attend. This is a conference for all people who want to optimize their health and that of their family.
Joel Salatin is a full-time farmer in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. A third generation alternative farmer, he returned to the farm full-time in 1982 and continued refining and adding to his parents’ ideas.
The farm services more than 5,000 families, 10 retail outlets, and 50 restaurants through on-farm sales and metropolitan buying clubs with salad bar beef, pastured poultry, eggmobile eggs, pigaerator pork, forage-based rabbits, pastured turkey and forestry products using relationship marketing.
He holds a BA degree in English and writes extensively in magazines such as STOCKMAN GRASS FARMER, ACRES USA, and FOODSHED. The family’s farm, Polyface Inc. (“The Farm of Many Faces”) has been featured in SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, GOURMET and countless other radio, television, and print media.
Profiled on the Lives of the 21st Century series with Peter Jennings on ABC World News, his after- broadcast chat room fielded more hits than any other segment to date. It achieved iconic status as the grass farm featured in the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller OMNIVORE’S DILEMMA by food writer guru Michael Pollan and the award-winning film documentary, FOOD INC.
A sought-after conference speaker, he addresses a wide range of issues, from “creating the farm your children will want” to “making a white collar salary from a pleasant life in the country.” A wordsmith, he describes his occupation as “mob-stocking hervbivorous solar conversion lignified carbon sequestration fertilization.” His humorous and conviction-based speeches are akin to theatrical performances, often receiving standing ovations.
He has authored eight books, including:
EVERYTHING I WANT TO DO IS ILLEGAL: War stories from the local food front.
THE SHEER ECSTASY OF BEING A LUNATIC FARMER
FOLKS, THIS AIN’T NORMAL: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World
His speaking and writing reflect dirt-under-the-fingernails experience punctuated with mischievous humor. He passionately defends small farms, local food systems, and the right to opt out of the conventional food paradigm. Four generations of his family currently live and work on the farm.
We hope you will join us on April 22!

Orthodoxy never never looks favorably on detractors, even referring to them as heretics. Daring to question the assumption du jour often means marginalization, demonization, or criminalization. Just like we today laugh at our ancestors for “knowing” the earth was flat, spirits caused disease, and hydrogenated vegetable oil was better than lard and butter, what will our great-grand children look back on what we “know,” and laugh? In this hard-hitting but humorous look at modern conventional food and farm systems, farmer-entertainer Joel Salatin dissects the industrial food system and offers a heretic’s view. You will leave with head held high, proud to be a heretic
The Self-Contained Home
Generally our homes require massive infusions of cash to maintain, energize, feed, and hydrate. What if instead of being familial economic drains our homes became economic engines? What if our homes produced more than they cost? Developed originally for home school audiences, this presentation has broad appeal for audiences wishing to become more self-reliant in their domestic living. Solariums, kitchen chickens, roof-top honey bees, grey water systems, cisterns–you name it; we can do a lot to wean ourselves from corporate and municipal dependency.
The Food Inquisition
Many Americans don’t realize that we are in the center of a massive food inquisition, pitting government/industrial orthodoxy against heritage heretics. Delivered with evangelistic fervor, this presentation takes on the orthodoxy of our age and explains, simply and practically, why the heretics know the truth. Every time someone asks for governmental remedies, whether it be food safety, environmentally damaging farms, chemical usage or genetically modified organisms, the orthodoxy rears its ugly head and creates a strong inquisition. Ultimately about food freedom, this talk wakes people up like none other because it exposes the underlying paradigms of today’s power brokers. It isn’t pretty. But knowing the enemy is the first step to winning. Folks will exit this talk ready to engage and win.
